I don't know about you, but I am tired of all the finger pointing and debating over fidelity in the campaigns or office. Now that we have so much scrutiny, we are about to scrutinize leaders right out of the office and for what? Moralists? Most of the people who have screamed how moral they are just have not been caught, YET. For one, I am not sure how many presidents in this century honored their vows...and at this point, as long as they do their job, I don't care. Do I agree with moralist Gov. Perry that if a man cheats on his wife he will cheat in business? Hell no. I don't have to like what he does but it is his business and between him and his wife to figure out how to live.
Personally, I am sick of picking at each candidate to the point that, who in their right mind would want to run for office? Power corrupts and it is damn hard for any man in power to avoid these pitfalls...it is all a part of risk talking...I do not condone it, I just recognize that we are flawed fundamentally as humans.
I read a good piece on CNN today. This piece was on Gingrich, who I don't personally like from when he last was popular in politics and I find it humorous that the moralist right seems to be on his band wagon. What I like best in this article is a quote. First let me post the link to the article:
http://www.cnn.com/2011/12/15/opinion/navarette-gingrich-fidelity/index.html?hpt=hp_c2
Here is the quote:
Gingrich needs to stop conceding so much on this issue. He needs to get off defense and go back on offense. In fact, if I were Gingrich, the next time this issue is raised, I'd turn to my opponents and say:
"Yes, I'm made mistakes. I'm not perfect. My earlier marriages were failures. Let's do this. Everyone who is flawless and who has a perfect marriage and who has never made a mistake in life can vote for you. Everyone else can vote for me. And we'll see how it goes."
There you go...I think if we are honest we would stop picking at this stuff and start talking about what really matters and that is getting this nation back on track and solving the financial crisis. Have you had enough of this BS about the personal lives of these candidates? I have.
