Recently, someone at my company ask our team to sign up for Twitter and tweet for the Microsoft Ignite show. Most of these folks are engineers and the engineers are largely not social. I was thinking, that won't work. Not exactly. Most of the team were not on Twitter and did not understand what it was about or how it worked. However, I pondered on it and I think I have come up with a brilliant suggestion for those who are rabidly avoiding social media but are front and center at trade shows.
Okay, you are not on Twitter, or maybe even on Linkedin, but you should be and here is why: Like it or not, we are all sales reps. It is all about networking! If you are at a trade show and you are meeting potential customers and influencers collect business cards or hook up directly via social media. If you personally do not tweet, YOU CAN RETWEET.
The more your network grows from these trade shows, the more you are reaching out to the potential customers and influencers and your one to many grows exponentially to the one to many from each of your new contacts. All you did was retweet the best information already being tweeted out from your company. All you had to do is pay attention. In addition, take the best tweets and repost on LinkedIn, which is another great avenue to mine customers.
We all have to start somewhere and the best time to start tweeting is now. If your company has spent dollars sending you to a trade show, don't waste them. Connect. Connect and watch your reach grow and get your product out to those who are hungry for the next great product.
