The first sign of spring may be the crocus. The first sign of fall may be the first hint of fall blush, but around these parts (I live near Boston, MA) the first sign of old man winter is the evil snow stick.
So, I got to work, and as soon as I did, I was faced with a parking lot sprinkled with these dandies all over the place. They show the plows where the curbs are. They help us to know how deep the snow is. They tell me winter is around the corner as I go kicking and screaming...
Sure, I love the pretty white snow. It is very Norman Rockwell here. I love how pristine it is after a nice bunch of it covers the blemishes of dead leaves and dirty streets. I love the quiet that the blanket of snow provides just after it falls and the earth is quiet for a time, as we look at it in wonder and make our hot cocoa and cook soup.
I love a snowy Christmas...it is really wonderful. I have been injured falling on ice badly a few times. As January nears, I am done. Now, when my daughter reads this she will remind me that Austin is snug and warm in the winter and to move our butts down there ASAP. Trust me that sounds good about NOW.
So, as I sit here facing the impending doom of winter. I wanted to share the evil snow stick with all my friends...I will keep you posted on the first snow.
